We the Season

by Sky Gathers

The violet shades of Summer
Fall listlessly astray
Toppling down like snowflakes
Cast in infinite arrays

Autumn gathers root
And yet Summer’s stripes are seen
Blooming midst the canopy
In an evanescent sheen

Now winter comes at last
And Fall is blown away
Its leaves drifting on the breeze
In infinite arrays

But the deepest cold will crack
In the first new buds of Spring
As a raven’s cry recalls the mourned
Of those whose song has passed...

The seasons come, then fade away
Then come, then pass once more
Nothing ever dies at all...
...We simply blend anew.
